Work at home

So I have looked into a few work at home programs. I was wondering if anything worked for any of you out there.

I have looked for daycare and nothing where I live works for what my work schedule would be as a nurse. Don't get me wrong, I love staying at home with my baby girl and getting to be with her and see her grow every day, but I feel bad that my husband is making all the money. He says he doesn't care because I get to stay home with Kenna. The main reason I want to try to work is to bring in some extra money. Right now we are able to make ends meet and still have some extra money every month, but we want to build a house and the rate we are going that will not happen anytime soon unless I try to bring in some money.

So, anyway, back to my original question. I was just looking for some input on what others have done out there that has worked for them as far as making money. It doesn't even have to be a whole lot, I am not looking for full time pay, just something I can do at home that brings in a little extra money. Thanks in advance for your input and I will let you know what works in the future if I get any responses!!

Scrap crochet granny square blanket

The Ok, this first part is not about the blanket so bear with me! I officially think I am not supposed to work out. Yesterday I woke up with a headache so bad that everytime I moved my head pounded. Today, Kenna decided 400 in the morning was a good time to wake up. Okay, all done with that now!!

So I love to crochet and I love making patterns my own. Along with that though, I hate all of the scraps that I end up with that are not big enough to do anything with. I have made many granny square scrap quilts. One I made was several continuous granny squares sown together. This one is several little squares together. I am going to make this a rather large blanket for my baby girl. I have made and have several baby blankets and they are just that, very soft and lovely blankets and I love them for just her, but none of them are big enough for us to cuddle together under. That is my goal for this blanket. I will post pictures as I go, but if you have any questions along the way, just let me know. This blanket will most likely take me a while to make considering I have a lot baby yarn to use up. I am using Red Heart Baby yarn, the kind with the silver strands in it. The reason I am using all of this up is because I do not have enough of any one color to make a blanket and you cannot buy this yarn any more.

Here is the yarn I am using.

Here is the squares I have made so far.

I also have white that I am using for the boarder and to connect the squares. Again I will be posting pictures as I progress through! Any questions just ask!

Weight loss update

So I said that I would try to update you on my weight loss every week. Unfortunately this week has not been so good. I have not lost any weight and I have not been very good at following my goals. I am also going to give you a no brainer at this time, do not try to start your weight loss goals right before vacation!! We did a lot of walking, but I did not eat as good as I sould have. I am happy to say though that I have been drinking more water so that is a start. Also getting up at 430 in the morning does not make it good for getting up to run!! Well I will start to try again this week.

Marine Graduation at Paris Island and tips

So I think this will be my longest post so far and my favorite post to do!! I had so much fun going to the Marine Graduation on Friday and the Family Day on Thursday and I urge everyone to go if they have a Marine Graduating. I also urge you to go if you are just in the area and want something to do!! It is not limited to just family, and it is an awesome experience and I learned so much!! I hope you enjoy seeing my videos and pictures from this week and I also hope that some of the tips help you on your trip.

First off Family Day and the moto run. We all decided to get up early to go to the motivational run Thursday morning, and even though I had to get myself, my husband and Kenna up at 430 in the morning it was worth it!! This was the first time that we were able to see my brother in 13 weeks, and even though we couldn't talk to him, we were able to pick him out!! It did help that he was on the end  but still, it was neat to see that even though he had changed in the past 13 weeks, he was not unrecognizable. The run starts at 700 and we got there early so we could see them warm up and get a spot on the street. It was awesome!!

Then my brother got liberty at 1000 in the morning. By the time we checked in and got to the All Weather Training Facility we only sat for about an hour or so. It was not bad though because even though we were sitting they had videos playing about what the new Marines have went through the last 13 weeks and what the Marines are all about. There were even parents of past Marines talking about how their children were not the best in school or not very responsible but going through boot camp changed them. The best part was you know when it was coming that they were going to dismiss them until 245 PM and my little brother, who is 8, was on the edge of his seat and trying not to run before they were dismissed. When he finally got to go he ran to him and yelled! It was cute! I am glad that even though we only got to see my brother for a few hours, that I went to family day to see him. He had so much to say and to tell us about his experiences and show us all the different places like where he ate and slept and so on.

Then we had to leave and we went to Hilton Head to see the lighthouse. The only thing I am going to say about this is, in my opinion it was not worth it because the lighthouse was not very big and you had to pay $6 a car to get on the island them $4 a person to go up the lighthouse. I do not think it was worth it, but I have been to the top of the Statue of Liberty and I do not think that anything will ever compare to that!

The next day we had to get up early again, but not as early as the day before. They tell you to get there early so you can get a good seat and that is a good idea if you want to sit where your Marines Platoon is, but you may not get to stay where you are. As the seats fill up they com by and tell you to not save seats and to scoot to the middle so those coming in can have seats. This is frustrating, but if you do not get there early you may not be able to in front of where your Marine will be. The plus is, even if you do not get to sit directly in front of their platoon, they do a pass and review where they walk in front of the stands so you will get to see your Marine. It is one of the best and proudest moments of my life to see my brother up there and it is absolutely amazing to see how in sync everyone is and to see the Paris Island Band!!

So with all that being said, I will give you some tips and tricks for going to Paris Island.

1. Take bug spray!! If you do not do anything else I say in this post, please do this, especially if you are going to take kids and go to the moto run! If you do not you will get eaten alive! I forgot about the bug spray the first day, and I am regretting it.

2. Go to Family day so you can go to liberty with your new Marine. After graduation they just want to leave, during Family day they are not allowed to leave base so they can show you all the places they want because they have no choice. If you do not go to liberty day they may not feel like showing you all this stuff.

3. Make sure you have room in your vehicle for extra bags. There will be 2 sea bags that are full, a duty bag that is about the size of a carry on and a bag with all the dress uniforms in.

4. Wear tennis shoes!! There is a lot of walking, not near as much as I thought there would have been, but still a lot of walking. If you have a map of Paris Island it looks like there is more walking than there actually is, but there is still a lot of walking to do.

5. Take sunscreen if you are a person who burns easily.

6. Take pictures!! This is a no duh, but don't forget with all the talking and walking and so on!!

7. Go to the MCX, there are a ton of souvenirs!!

8. Take a picnic lunch for Family day. Your new Marine will be hungry and all the food places will be packed. Buying the expensive meal is not worth it in my opinion. Also go to E. Beach to eat, it is a little bit of a drive, about 15 minutes, but your Marine can also sow you a few things on the way, like where the Crucible starts and where they runs at times.

9. Take your new Marines favorite snacks and drinks. They will be hungry and want some junk food! They have nearly been starved to death over the past 13 weeks and will want "good" food to eat. Not that the food they ate was not good, but they ate a lot of the same foods and they were not allowed any sweats. Also they will have lost some weight because they burned more calories than they took in most of the time. Also, even though they are very hungry, they may not be able to eat as much as they think they will, so do not push them to eat more than they can.

10. Yes, they want to eat all the junk food they want, make sure they only do it for a few days. After a couple of days they need to get back in the habit of eating healthy and working out. Remember that they still have a lot of schooling and training ahead of them, you do not want them to be out of shape after their boot leave, and if they get RA maybe longer.

11. Have the drivers ID ready when you get to base so that you can speed up the process of getting on base.

12. Be prepared to have your bags checked. DO NOT CARRY ANYTHING THAT COULD BE USED AS A WEAPON SUCH AS POCKET KNIVES. Also if you are taking a small child you will not be able to take strollers into the All Weather Training Facility and there will not be room in the stands during the Graduation either. You can leave the stroller outside or in your car, its up to you.

13. I know that I said the new Marines are ready to get off base after graduation, but try to wait about half an hour or so before leaving. There is a lot of traffic and we took the time to walk to the engraving shop after graduation and by the time we got back to the parking lot most of the traffic was gone.

14. Do not stay in a hotel on or very close to base. The closer you are to base the more expensive the hotels are. We stayed in a Hampton Inn in Okatie, SC and it was half an hour from base and it was not difficult to get back and forth.

15. Also, book your hotel in advance. I got a great discount for booking 30 days in advance. And if you are anything like me, you know you are going, I would have had to be on my death bed to miss it!

16. Do not let your Marine drive. They will tell you that they are fine and they can drive but they are going to be exhausted!! They  will say that they are fine, but they are tired I promise. They are used to moving every waking moment and sleeping when they stop, so sitting in a car counts as stoping and they will fall asleep!! Within 20 minutes of sitting my brother was out!!

So there you go, tips and tricks for going to Marine Graduation. Any questions or if you have some of your own tips just let me know.

It was one of the proudest moments of my life!!

Back from Vacation

So, I haven't posted anything since we left on our vacation and I have a ton of stuff to post about now!! I will post the good stuff tomorrow when I have more time about the actual graduation. For now I think I am going to post about some of the experiences I had.

The first thing that I had an issue with was the bathrooms at some of the places we stopped. Not that they were all dirty, some of them were not the best, but they were usable. My issue was with the lack of baby changing stations!! I cannot believe how many places still do not have a baby changing station! I have heard about men complaining about the lack of changing stations in the men's bathroom, and they are right, but we have to get them in the women's bathroom too! I am absolutely discusted that I had to change my daughters diaper on the floor. Yes, I had one of those plastic mats from the diaper bag, but still that is horrible!! And, the one bathroom only had room in the handicapped stall and when I went in some woman had shit all over the seat!! I think it is awful that these places do not have a changing station and women have to change diapers on the floor!!

The next thing is I understand that some people do not like to hear a crying baby during dinner and when I am at home I feel the same way, I want her to stop crying so that I can eat. But, when we went  out to eat and Kenna started crying I kept getting nasty looks. Then when I proceeded to feed her baby food at the table I got even more nassty looks. I just have to say that some people need to realize that parents should still be able to out to eat and they do not always have someone to watch their child, especially when they are on vacation.

I have decided that I was crazy to take a 5 month old on a 12 hour drive, even if we split it into two days!! Half way through the second day of driving Kenna decided she had enough of the car seat and she just wanted to be out. Every day it was almost instant that when she was put in the seat she cried. Then we gave her a break on Saturday and today she was fine!! Hardly any crying at all. At one point on Friday though she decided that she was very tired!!

Well, I do not think I will be traveling with a baby any long distances any time soon! Tomorrow I will be posting about the Marine Graduation at Paris Island from this weekend. Just a sneak peak, IT WAS AWSOME!!! It was the best experience of my life and even though Kenna gave me some trouble I am glad that I went and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

Today's the day!!

Yesterday I was writing about how I was hating the fact that I would be traveling with a baby. Well, today is the day that we are leaving!! We are leaving this afternoon and I am almost packed up. I am excited to be going though because I will get to see my younger brother that I have not seen for 13 weeks!! We will get to see him in 2 days and I cannot wait to see the man he has become. As a family we have had some issues. He has not been the most responsible person since graduating high school and at one point he didn't talk to any of his family for 6 months! I just hope that he has grown up. In these last 13 weeks I have wrote to him many times and I can tell from the letters that he has already grown up! He has even been able to call my mom on a couple of occasions and she says she can tell he has changed a lot from the young man that we sent to the marines. I will let you know how things go and how much my brother has changed. I will even try to get some videos and photos and post them so any one who has questions about what happens can see for themselves!

I hate traveling with a baby!!!

If you have read any of my first few posts you know that I am a first time mother of a beautiful baby girl. I love her to death and wouldn't trade her for the world!! I am not ready to leave her for a week while I am on vacation, like some people I know. But with that being said, I hate traveling with a baby!! They require so much stuff!

My husband and I are going on vacation starting tommorow with my mom, step-dad, and younger brther. We are going to Paris Island, my brother is graduating from the Marines!! I am very excited and happy for him and proud of him so I do not want to miss this once in a lifetime event! But, going on this trip with my five month old is crazy!! My husband and I bought a brand new Chevy Cruze thinking that this would be a great family car. Don't get me wrong, I loved that car, but when I put the infant car seat in the car it was too crouded and we had to get a bigger car. We bought a Dodge Journey and I love it too, and I am glad we got it. I am starting to get things packed to leave and I realize between the pack and play, stroller, stuff for Kenna for a week, my stuff, and my husbands stuff we will have very little room left, so I can only imagine if we still had the Cruze!!

Now I know that traveling with a baby is difficult, but I am going to get off topic for a little bit. I cannot stand it when people want a baby so bad, but then let their family raise them while they go away for 3-4 days a week. I can understand maybe once but twice in 2 weeks! in 14 days this person was only with her baby 5 or 6 days! I can not imagine leaving my baby for more than one day at a time and she is five months old, the individual I am talking about, her baby is only 3 1/2 months! I know you need a break but really! Going to work is enough of a break for me.

Ok, back on topic. I am excited to see my brother after 13 longs weeks, but driving for 12 hours with a 5 month old is going to be interesting to say the least!

Is this just my 5 month old?

So I bought Kenna this outfit at none other than walmart the other day and decided to put it on her this morning.the top is white and yellow and the bottoms are blue and yellow. Being the genius that I am decide to do carrots for lunch. I used a big bib to cover the whole shirt so we didn't stain the white shirt, but in the end my kid ends up with it on the blue pants! Really!!! And upon further inspection not one bit of orange on the light colored shirt and it's long sleeve! I swear only Kenna could manage this somehow! Thank God for stain remover!

The start...well, more like restart....of my weight loss journey

Okay, so I know you are tired of seeing weigh loss blogs and so on, but this is differnt! First of all this blog is not only about weight loss, it's about everyday life, my life, but yes part of this will be about weight loss, and I will explain why. FIrst of all let's start with where the weight gain started I am a nurse and I blame nursing school for the weight gain, and birth control and eating fast food. Ok, so i know as a nurse you are supposed to be healthy and all but when you are working 30 hours a week and going to school 40 hours a week and 16 hours a week of clinical plus studying all the time you barely have time to sleep let alone cook and eat healthy, so for two and a half years i lived off of take out and fast food. Also I was on birth control at the time so that didn't help at all.

Since I graduated I have tried to loose the weigh and would loose 10-15 pounds then I would stop loosing weight and would give up on he diet and exercise at that time and gain all the weight back. After having my baby girl I breastfed her for about a week and was able to loos some of the baby weight but after I stopped breastfeeding I gained the weight back. I do not have many friends that need to loose weight and I do not live near many people that I know. That is when I got the idea to try tto write about my weight loss on a blog. I hope to gain some followers so that I can be held accountable for my weight loss goals and find some encouragement. I hope to start posting some things on here that I have been afraid to admit. I am hopooing to gain support and encouragement through this blog.

So here is the start of my current weight loss journey. And here is something I have not been able to admit to anyone: at my hightest weight I weighed 200 pounds. Currently today I weigh 198.2 pounds. So I am going to start this journey with 5 goals and I will update these goals at least monthly. Here are the goals I will start with and my plans to achieve them.
1. My first goal is to drink more water. I hope to try to drink at least 3 bottles of water daily. I wil start every day with 3 bottles of water in the fridge and try to drink them all.
2. Second off I will stop eating junk food. This means chips, chocolate, ice cream and so on. I will not by these foods when I go grocery shopping, and if I buy them for my husband I will get things I do not like.
3. I will walk on the treadmill at least half an hour 4 days a week. Since Kenna has been sleeping through the night she usually sleeps untilll about 7 AM I will get up by 6 AM so I can do this.
4. I will run for at least 1 minute every 10 minutes while I am on the treadmill. I hope to increase my stamina.
5. I hope to get back to my pre-baby weight by the end of the year. This should not be a very difficult goal as this means only loosing 8 pounds by the end of the year.
Bonus: I am adding this goal because I have a bad habit of weighing myself every day and when I do this I may go two days without loosing weight and I start to get disouraged way to early. So this goal is to only weigh myself once a week, no more!

I hope to update my blog at least weekly with my weight loss progress. Please feel free to ask me any questions and please leave any words of encouragement you have! Also feel free to let me know about your weight loss goals, difficulties, successes, what worked and what didn't work and anything else you would like to share.

Thank you in advance for your participation and words of encouragement!! :)

Finding daycare!!!

Okay, so warning, this post is a little bit of a rant!

I want to start off by giving you a little background. Prior to having Kenna, my now five month old daughter, I worked full time as a nurse. I worked on pediatrics and in labor and delivery. I found myself always judging people, I hate to admit it but I did, about how they could be on welfare and not work even though they are perfectly capable. My thought is there are always jobs out there, even if its minimum wage. Now I am very lucky and after we had our beautiful daughter my husband got a different job so that I have been able to stay at home with Kenna. Now don't get me wrong, I love staying at home with her, but I would also like to be able to work so that we can have some extra money. My husband works 7 days a week anywhere from 12-16 hours a day so he is unable to stay with Kenna while I work and we live an hour away from our family and even if we did live closer, most of them work full time too. Now on to the rant!

I live in an area that has literally 4 hospitals within 20 minutes of each other. Also I am a nurse so I make decent money, but sadly not enough to pay for daycare. I have been searching since before Kenna was born for a place to put Kenna for just a day or two for a few hours while I work. Wouldn't you know that there is no place in my area that is a decent price!! I think it is sad, when looking into daycare I found a few places but I would have to work 40 hour weeks just to pay for them. Now my question is why would I work 40 hours just to pay someone else to raise my child when I can do it at home for free? I will no longer be judging people because if a nurse cannot afford to pay someone to watch her child how could someone working for minimum wage do it? I also searched for individual babysitters and wouldn't you know they want paid per hour what I make at the hospital!! Again how am I supposed to afford that when I have taxes taken out of mine and if I work 12 hours then they would have Kenna for 13 by the the time I drop her off and pick her up! I know this has been an issue long before now but I guess I never realized it until I had to deal with it. All I have to say is what is wrong with this system?

Here is the site that I used in my search for sitters and daycares http://www.tlm.bz/SH7O I urge you to check it out and let me know if you have any success. Also if you have already found success I urge you to tell me what you have done and I will try it out.

Last but not least I wonder if there are any other individuals out there who work at a hospital and if you do does your hospital have a daycare? Like I said there are 4 hospitals within a 20 minute radius and none of them have a daycare. I work with some people who have cut back on hours because of the same issues of finding a sitter or daycare and I feel if I could convince the hospital to open a daycare they would not loose so many employees and could actually save some money.

Thank you for your input!

First post!

Okay, so I know that in this day and age just about anyone can start a blog, but I wanted to start a blog to try to document some of the funny moments of parenthood and to have something to look back on one day. My first born child is just 5 months old, so I wish I would have started this sooner, but here goes!

This blog will be a combination of things. First off I love to do crafts, mostly crochet, but there are other things I have found I like to do and when I come up with a particularly cute or fun craft I plan to write about it here. I also love to find things on pintrest so sometimes I might post from there. Also I love being a stay at home mom and love all the time I get to spend with my baby girl so I plan to post things I learn while raising her and sometimes this might just be my place to vent.

So here goes, and feel free to ask me questions and I will try to answer them!

I love to talk so this should not be a problem for me to write several times a week!
